Research Interests and Expertise

Huw O.L. Read conducts research in digital forensics in areas of forensic science, the law, and their application to the digital realm. His research journey began as an undergraduate B.Sc. in Software Engineering which had, as part of the programme, a substantial research project in the final year of study. It was at this time in 2002 he first learnt of the specialist field of digital forensics and put effort into developing a forensic application. The process of completing that research instilled in him a deep-rooted interest in digital forensics that has continued to shape his research over the years. They actively mentor students, advising that they pick a mentor with the same interests; successful research projects come from students and mentors who are genuinely excited about the research discoveries. He collaborates with colleagues at 樱花动漫 and beyond, including Dr. Iain Sutherland (Noroff University College, Norway) and Dr. Konstantinos Xynos (Automotive security researcher, Germany).
